Independence: True or Insane?

People are always saying we need to be mature, independent, and responsible, and these words come up in a lot of conversations when kids turn about ten. The three words listed all grow off the same base, growing up. Every year we age we gain more responsibilities. People think that if they do everything on their own, they will be independent. But is that always true?

I participated in something called Odyssey of the Minds, or O.M., you may have heard of it, you may not have. The main idea of O.M. is that you have must work with a team to come up with a solution to a problem that is given to you. Teamwork is so mandatory that if you don’t have at least five people, they dock points. Independence isn’t an option, you must be dependent on one another. If you thought you did something entirely on your own, think again. Somewhere along the line that project ties back to somebody. An example is the Revolutionary War, America was gaining freedom from the Royal Crown, but without the help of the French, we would have been toast. If you completed a level on a video game that you had been stuck on, something someone said probably triggered that breakthrough. Total independence is fictitious and surreal, true maturity would be our admittance of interdependence. No matter how long a project took you or how hard you worked, someone in some way helped. And admitting that, would be true maturity.

Essay 32

Humans have struggled their whole life, think of people like the founding fathers, they struggled for the greater good that most of them didn’t see. But do we only enjoy what we struggle for, do we just put on a show of enjoyment for what we didn’t earn? Or do we feel happiness from both what we did and didn’t work for? I believe we enjoy both, as a kid who is growing up in a world where almost anything is one touch away, I was taught to not expect to be treated like the prince of England. And I believe that lesson paid off, I see other kids expecting to be given whatever they want at no cost. Now I am not saying I never had weak moments, but I tried not to be a kid like that. When I was the age of nine, if I wanted something, I asked for it on by birthday, at Christmas, I worked for it, or I was at the good grace of my parents. If we only enjoy what we earn, then birthday gifts would be worthless, same as Christmas gifts. So, saying that we only enjoy what we work for is incorrect. An example is that I just got a video game I really wanted for my birthday, I didn’t beg, plead, or struggle to get the game in any way, shape, or form. People will like what they have, even if they didn’t work for it.

The Life of King Jeroboam

In the year 973 B.C., Nabat and Zeruah had a child, and that child’s name was Jeroboam. Little did they know, that baby boy would become the ruler over ten of the twelve tribes of Israel.

When Jeroboam was 38, he had a child named

Nadab, Nadab was born in the year 935 B.C. Somewhere in between the birth of Nadab and Jeroboam’s birth, Jeroboam became a servant for King Solomon. And in between Jeroboam becoming a servant, and the birth of Nadab, Jeroboam had Abijam.

A year after Nadab came into the world, Jeroboam

received a prophecy from God, telling Jeroboam that he would become king of Israel. King Solomon heard of this and grew extremely angry, so Jeroboam hid in Egypt under protection of the pharaoh. Jeroboam hid in Egypt for a duration of four years. He then returned to Israel and learned that Solomon’s son, Rehoboam, had become king. Jeroboam knew that now was his time to become king, and in the early times of the year 931 B.C., that was exactly what happened.

Israel was now divided, ten of the northern tribes formed Israel, two of the southern tribes formed Judah. The newly founded Israel had Jeroboam as leader, Judah had Rehoboam. But Jeroboam feared one thing, that the people would have no reason to stay. And in late 931 B.C. he had a plan, create a new religion that focused on things you could see. He created idols, alters, temples all against God. One day while watching a sacrifice take place a man walked up and shouted “This alter shall fall! God is displeased and shall destroy your fake idols, your fake god, All of it!”. This of course upset King Jeroboam, he then reached out to grab the man, but before he could grasp the man’s garbs Jeroboam’s hand withered up like a raisin. He of course had his hand fixed, but he lost many followers that day.

At this time Rehoboam had died and his son, Abijah, had become king. Unlike his dad, Abijah wanted to bring Judah and Israel back together. In the year 911 B.C., Abijah called Jeroboam to a battle, Abijah had 400,000 men and Jeroboam had 800,000, when the armies met thousands died almost instantly. In the end Abijah won, killing every single soldier Jeroboam had. Jeroboam retreated and had to deal with what the people thought of such a crushing defeat. Soon after the battle his son Abijam falls ill, Jeroboam calls for his prophet Ahijah. When Ahijah arrives he tells Jeroboam “Because of your sins against God all your descendants shall die violent deaths after this firstborn.”. Later that month Abijam died, Jeroboam was crushed with sorrow and guilt, he then died soon after Abijam, Nadab then becomes king. Jeroboam had reined Israel for 22 years, he was 62 when he died. Jeroboam was not a good king in the perspective of listening to God, but in the way of ruling his people he did a good job. This has been the life of a king who would set the stage to make Israel slowly decline into a ravaging demise of what once was a mighty civilization.

Mass Death in Egypt Capital

King’s First Born Dead

Who is behind this malicious act you ask? Keep reading to find out! “As a citizen of this city I am horrified of the fact that the king kept them here, knowing that they were with that evil man!” said one disgruntled occupant of the city. The “evil man” she is referring to is Moses son of the former Pharaoh, and oddly enough a Hebrew himself. This Moses has come before the Pharaoh on multiple occasions and told him to let the rest of the Hebrews go or he would cause havoc in the city. But, the Pharaoh refused, and then Moses brought these wicked plagues upon this once plentiful city! Now he has slain all Egyptian firstborns in the city, and he left his people with all their children. And that morning sobs were heard all across the city. The Hebrews were then forced to leave, the Pharaoh was shouting the word murderer at Moses and this vicious man said “ I am no murderer, nobody here is a murderer, the mighty God, creator of all wanted his people freed and freed they are.”. The people of Egypt then threw out their gold, silver, foods, and much more, pleading with the Hebrews to tell their god to stop the horrors that had happened recently. And to those pleads the Hebrews said “ These horrors wouldn’t have happened if you had listened the first time the prophet Moses asked to let us go.”. Stay Subscribed For more!

Hi, my name is Alex, I have an immensely large family but I only know a very small fraction of them. I have one sister and zero brothers. Some of my hobbies are reading, playing video games, taking things apart, and playing the trumpet. One of my favorite book series is Harry Potter, another is the Mysterious Benedict Society. Some of the video games I like are Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Human Fall Flat, Spider-Man, and The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild. I also like to just get wrapped up in my thoughts. I like a lot of different foods like dumplings and wontons or pizza and lasagna. I am 5ft,8in tall I have my moms nose and my dads eyes. My eyes are blue and my hair is brown unless I am in the sun a lot then its blond. This has been an essay about me. Thank you for watching I hope you enjoyed.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
